This piece is a little dated, but it seems now the biggest problem in restoring the Autonomous Orthodox Church of China (Moscow Patriarchate) in the PRC isn't governmental Communism, but nationalism. From where I sit, that may be progress! After all, Chinese nationalism is nothing new. (I don't say that as a good or a bad thing, just an historical thing.) Other branches of foreign churches (i.e., Catholic or Protestant) have traditionally seen this as a Communist thing; they may be forgetting their Chinese history.
